TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU! WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
Hi there! My name is Kim Morgan and I am a wife, mother of 2 boys under 3, fitness fanatic, business owner turned stay-at home mom moonlighting as a fashion and lifestyle blogger☺ I am passionate about my faith, family, fitness, friends, and of course fashion. My blog A Healthy Dose of style focuses on those key areas of my life and I am excited to be writing again! I love helping people whether it is with something small like styling an outfit or something much bigger like changing their life through fitness and getting healthy. I was a personal trainer and also owned 4 Pure Barre fitness studios with my sister. When my oldest son turned 1, I made the decision to stay home and spend more time with him. It has been so rewarding but also the biggest challenge of my life, especially now that I have a threenager on my hands and a 10-month old little boy too. As challenging as it is, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am very blessed to be able to spend more time with them!

On December 17th, 2018 at 10:30 am I was officially diagnosed with young-onset Parkingson’s Disease after many months of searching for answers. To say that moment has changed my life forever is an understatement. You might wonder how I felt when I heard the words “you have Parkinson’s disease” and the answer is grateful… yep grateful! I had been desperately searching for answers as to what was wrong with me to no avail. I had seen every doctor I could in my hometown of Memphis, TN and had every test you could imagine and still no one was sure what was going on with me. It was the worst time of my life and to top it off, I had 2 young children to care for. My youngest son was only 2 months old when I began searching for answers. Not knowing what is happening to your body is absolutely excruciating! I began to pray harder than I had in my entire life and the thing I prayed for every single night, was to be able to watch my kids grow up. I also prayed that someone would figure this out. I was truly blessed to have the opportunity to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where I received my diagnosis and now have the most amazing neurologist and team of doctors. I am feeling better than I have in years! I know this is a progressive disease and I will have to live with it forever, but I truly believe there will be a cure in my lifetime. I am extremely blessed and this entire experience has changed me for the better. God has a plan for us all and at times we don’t understand, but He always know what we need. I have seen that time again during my journey and I am so thankful that this has strengthened my relationship with Christ, it has brought my husband and I closer, it has made me realize what is important in life and it has taught me to be grateful for every day.
SHARING YOUR STORY AND OWNING YOUR TRUTH IS SO IMPORTANT! HOW DO YOU PROMOTE AUTHENTICITY?
It is crazy how we all walk around trying to be this perfect version of ourselves, but what really connects us with other people is breaking down our walls and showing our imperfections.
I have truly seen the impact of being authentic and sharing my story has been a freeing experience. I think there is so much pressure to be perfect with social media and the culture we live in and we judge people based on appearances, but you never know what someone is going through. Sharing my story and just being myself has opened many doors and connections that I would not have made otherwise. I have had SO MANY people reach out who have gone through a situation that made them relate to my story. It is crazy how we all walk around trying to be this perfect version of ourselves, but what really connects us with other people is breaking down our walls and showing our imperfections. I am proud of my journey and hope by continuing to share my story I can help inspire others to keep going no matter what they are going through.
HOW DO YOU PRACTICE SELF-CARE AND SELF-LOVE?
Well, with my condition, exercise is extremely important. It is the ONLY thing that has been proven to slow the progression of the disease! So, that has become a major priority for me. I make sure to schedule time for it every single day. I used to feel guilty taking the time from my kids, but now I know that I am doing it FOR my kids. I want to be able to run around with them and be active for as long as possible! I also take some time every so often to pamper myself by getting my nails done or my hair washed and blow dried. Those are my 2 favorite treats to myself. My husband and I also make time every year to go on a vacation just the 2 of us. It is so great for our marriage, but also for us to recharge and be better parents. I also love to put on some music, light some candles, put on a face mask and take a bath to unwind!
NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE ARE BIG PROPONENTS OF AROMATHERAPY. WHAT ARE YOU FAVORITE SCENTS?
Lavender is my favorite for relaxation, but I also love my eucalyptus for muscle and joint pains, and sandalwood is great for anxiety.
YOUR STORY IS ONE THAT PERSONIFIES COURAGE AND RESILIENCE. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHERS WHO ARE THRIVING TO OVERCOME AN OBSTACLE OF FIND BEAUTY IN THEIR BROKENNESS?
Don’t give up and listen to your intuition. I struggled because I was worried everyone thought I was crazy, but I knew something was wrong and knew I could not give up. I had to figure this out one way or another. Try to open up to others. I wish I would have! I isolated myself and I think that makes it so much harder. Pray. I can tell you that God will get you through. It is so important to know that you are not alone and for me I took comfort in the fact that God was by my side and He had a plan even though I was struggling to get through the day and desperate to know what was wrong with me. Also, you have to be your own advocate. Tell doctors you want certain tests, pursue 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions. Be tenacious. You will get through it if you believe and fight for answers.
