Kintsugi (“golden joinery”): the time-honored Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer mixed with gold to highlight the beauty of imperfection.

Creator of Kintsugi Candel Co, Allison

We’re big believers that so-called imperfections are what make each and every one of us special. We all have little gold-filled cracks of our own, shimmering traces that tell a unique story of resilience and renewal.

Our founder, Allison Jones, received a harrowing diagnosis in April 2018: a brain tumor in her right frontal lobe. Three days following that unexpected news, she lay vulnerable on an operating table to have the mass removed. Aromatherapy played a significant role in her recovery, and the use of essential oils as part of Allison’s self-care routine made a profound impact on how she was feeling. The instant transformation of outlook brought on by fragrance was something she grew compelled to share, and Kintsugi Candle Co. was born.

“My interpretation of kintsugi is that items are made more beautiful because of their cracks, not in spite of them, and I feel that this is something that can be applied to people as well,” explains Allison.

Like broken pottery put back together with gold, we are made whole again in spite of our trials and tribulations and are more beautiful and unique having been broken.

Whether you’re craving a moment of calm or looking to reinvigorate your mood, we want to be right there with you, celebrating you just as you are.
